#OneLoveManchester: Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus

Not that long ago some were upset with Miley Cyrus for her misappropriation of the black culture.  Her constant twerking and mingling with rap stars seemed to gain her a lot of attention.  After that we had Ariana Grande with her “Donut Gate” fiasco.  Who knew a celebrity would stop low enough to lick a donut in a public place to put it back and have someone else buy it? (And if we’re honest, unfortunately there are people in this world who would have bought it.)  Ariana’s public image took several dips negatively.

But as the world turns and we continue to live, all of us have the opportunity to redeem ourselves from our mistakes.  Miley and Ariana have seemingly done that with the concert to honor the victims of Manchester, England.  Ariana and her team put together a benefit concert called #OneLoveManchester after a terrorist detonated a bomb killing people at her previous concert.  Most of those killed and injured were young people.  To help in Ariana’s effort, Miley along with other stars, showed their support by performing at the concert.  It was what Miley Cyrus said that prompted this blog today, “For me, the most important responsibility we have on this entire planet is to take care of one another.”

I really hope Miley believes that and has made it a part of her life. But whether she does or not, I know that we are here on this earth not just for ourselves, but for each other.  If we would all take time to think about someone else, before thinking selfishly about ourselves, then this world would be a better place.  Bombings wouldn’t happen.  Domestic Violence wouldn’t occur.  Fathers would come home.  What Miley stated is actually something that God has spoken to us as written in the Bible found in Philippians 2:4 - "Not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Part of the purpose for each of us is to encourage, motivate, and love each other.  Yes, there are those who are stronger than others in doing that.  However, we can all do what we can.  Miley and Ariana are celebrities who used there star power.  You are someone who can do something else.  The next time someone around you gets into a hard time, take time to encourage, motivate, or simply love them.  Never be afraid to #beaboutsomething to help someone else.  We lift up prayers to the people in England…..
