Tell me your weekly schedule. What do you dedicate your time to?
I’m a Registered Vascular Technologist. I do vascular ultrasounds at a clinic. I get up in the morning. I talk to Jesus first thing. Then I get ready to exercise. Sometimes I exercise and talk with Jesus at the same time. I try to make sure that I read something out of the Word. I’m not successful to do it every morning, but most mornings I try to, or sometime during the day. I get to work at 7:30 in the morning. This young man that I work with, he’s 36 years old and he’s a believer. Me and him pray every morning before we get started. We ask the Lord to help us glorify Jesus. All day long, we try to share Jesus while we’re working.
So, you work with other believers?
Yeah, I work with a guy who’s a believer. He’s a pretty cool cat. He wants to converse about the Lord. It’s helpful, you know, I’ve worked at places where all people want to talk about is the wrong things. Those are just times of testing. I had a lady give her life to Jesus while we were at work. She had never accepted Jesus as her Savior. A lot of times I will have people come in that have different lifestyles. If we are willing to open our mouths and not be afraid and understand what that means and understand what Jesus did for us on the cross.
You dedicate time to the church too. What does that look like?
That is Wednesday night prayer, and Sunday morning worship. Not every Sunday, but some Sundays I play in the praise and worship band. If they have Bible Study, I’m supposed to be there at 8 o’clock. If not, I’m there by about 9:30. After prayer, we will do praise and worship. Last Sunday we had a dinner that was really good, a spaghetti dinner. I serve in the church in that way. I try to get my kids and wife involved. We don’t have a Friday service or nothing, so we are here for a long time on Sunday. Probably 9:30 until about 12 or 1. They want to give God room to speak, so we are there to worship God and Jesus says “he who worships him must worship in Spirit and in truth,” so if you’re worshipping God, right, you should expect an answer. So they leave a place for the Lord to speak. We believe that God can speak through people. A lot of times what’s really neat is that the people that do speak don’t know what the preacher is gonna preach, but a lot of times what the preacher preaches was what they spoke about which is really cool because the Word is confirmed. Not only the written Word, but the prophetic Word.
When did you realize what you were supposed to do with your life?
I realized this was the job for me when a man spoke to me and told me God was going to bring me into another job, a job that I have never thought of before, and when that happened I knew it was the Lord’s doing.
Was there a time you almost walked away from it all? What caused the pressure?
It wasn’t easy getting started, the woman who hired me took another job, and the guy that took her place told me he was not an equal opportunist. I laughed at him and told him God opens doors that no man can shut, and closes doors no man can open. Very hard but the Lord also let me know that through much tribulation we must enter into the kingdom of God. The pressure came when he told me that, but Jesus kept me calm by practicing the Word toward that man.
What or who helped to shape you as a person in life?
Brothers named Marvin Tyler, Moses Cabellero, and Donald Chochrin, who was my first pastor.
What Bible verse has been a life verse for you?
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper: and every tongue that rises against thee in judgement thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from me, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17
What is a piece of advice you have for someone struggling to find their purpose?
Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you is what I would advise.
