We don’t need a melting pot in this country, folks. We need a salad bowl. In a salad bowl, you put in the different things. You want the vegetables — the lettuce, the cucumbers, the onions, the green peppers — to maintain their identity. You appreciate differences.
— Jane Eliott, American diversity educator known for her "Blue eyes/Brown eyes" exercise in 1968

Cultural Sensitivity Training

From Black Lives Matters, to Stop Asian Hate, and the growing conversation of white privilege, voices are raised to cry out about the injustices in American society. Unfortunately, much of the crying out is done from silos within respective communities. Blacks protest against white police actions, Asians speak out against racial attacks, and whites are constantly shown as being the aggressor of many negative situations. If most of us would pause for a moment and have deep conversations across the lines, we would see that quite a few things wouldn’t need to escalate if we just listened to each other.

At The 5th, we believe 100% in diversity and the appreciation of all cultures across this world. With our Cultural Sensitivity Training, our goal is to provide a safe place to express out biases, stereotypes, or fears while also learning what is true and beautiful about those who look and do things differently form our respective silos.

In our 2-hour workshop with trusted facilitators, we’ll be discussing:

  • Real and perceived stereotypes

  • Communication styles and misunderstandings

  • “One-size doesn’t fit all” principle

  • Real thoughts and feelings either openly or anonymously

  • Great contributions of people groups to America

If you are Caucasian, African-American, Asian, Hispanic, or whatever…..if you want to know more and grow more to understand and respect the people around you, then this workshop is for you!
